Nicole Holofcener
We recently watched a movie, "You Hurt My Feelings", about an author, played by marvelous Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who gets upset when her husband lies about liking her new book. That's it. That's the movie!
The movie was directed by Nicole Holofcener, who specializes in smaller, women-led films, often featuring Catherine Keener. Her "biggest" Hollywood entries were "Friends with Money", which stars not only Keener, but also Jennifer Aniston, and "Enough Said", which also stars Louis-Dreyfus and was James Gandolfini's last film.
Since we want to highlight Jewish female directors, we actually watched four more of Holofcener's films (Keener is always delightful!), trying to find a unifying theme to help us write this profile... but kept coming back to "You Hurt My Feelings".
That one just hit home. It argues that the small lies we tell people we care about actually demonstrate our love... And perhaps that once we stop doing that, that love is not there anymore.
We hope you liked this profile!
