Olympe de Gouges

Born Marie Gouze, she reinvented herself as Olympe de Gouges, a woman ahead of her time who consistently agitated for social justice. Her "Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen" directly challenged the patriarchal norms of the French Revolution, laying groundwork for future feminist movements. Apparently, the "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" part was missing a crucial clause for "and also, women are people."

While she certainly left her mark on history, particularly for her unwavering dedication to human rights, Olympe de Gouges was not, in fact, Jewish. Her family hailed from Montauban, France, and her parents were solidly Christian, providing no hint of a secret synagogue in the attic.

Her contributions to women's rights and her defiant stance against the Reign of Terror certainly make her "kvell-worthy" in a general humanistic sense, but alas, not for our particular tribe. She ended up losing her head to the guillotine, a rather unfashionable accessory even for the most dedicated revolutionaries, proving that sometimes, even good ideas need better timing.
