Pablo Picasso, the Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theater designer, was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Co-founder of the Cubist movement, co-inventor of collage, and developer of a wide variety of styles, Picasso’s artistic output was as prolific as it was revolutionary. Truly, the man just couldn't stop making things.

Despite the pervasive myth that Picasso had Jewish ancestry, there is no evidence to support this claim. His family hailed from Spain and France, with nary a menorah nor a matzo ball in sight. One could argue he had a "Blue Period" and a "Rose Period," but never a "Bar Mitzvah Period."

Yet, his works — some of the most recognizable and revered in the art world — have brought joy and contemplation to countless viewers, including, surely, many Jews. So while he may not have been a member of the tribe, his artistic legacy certainly merits a kvell from all of humanity.
