Queen Latifah. Even the name sounds like someone who might have a hidden menorah in her past, perhaps a distant relative who dabbled in klezmer before hitting the big time. Alas, despite the regal moniker and a career that has brought joy to millions (some of whom are undoubtedly Jewish), the clues just aren't there.

Born Dana Elaine Owens, her roots are firmly planted in Newark, New Jersey, and a lineage that includes a mother who was a schoolteacher and a father who was a police officer. No ancient rabbis or shtetl-dwelling ancestors appear in her family tree, no matter how hard one squints.

While her achievements are undeniably kvel-worthy — Grammys, Golden Globes, an Oscar nomination, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — her contributions are universal, not specifically bringing nachas to the Tribe. Still, we appreciate the talent, even if it's not ours to claim.
