Born in The Hague, Rachel Ruysch bloomed into a celebrated artist, though her canvases never depicted a menorah or a matzah ball. Her father was a professor of anatomy and botany, which explains her uncanny ability to paint flora so lifelike you'd expect them to wilt.

Her still lifes, often featuring dark backgrounds and vibrant, overflowing bouquets, were highly sought after by European aristocracy. Despite her artistic renown, no historical evidence suggests a connection to Judaism, leaving us to wonder if her "Dutch Masters" status was merely about paint, not ancestry.

While her technical skill was undeniable, and her contributions to art history significant, her lack of any discernible Jewish connection means she was likely too busy perfecting her floral arrangements to attend shul. She was, unequivocally, a master painter, and equally unequivocally, not a member of the tribe.
