René Descartes, the fellow who gifted us "I think, therefore I am," spent a good chunk of his intellectual life trying to prove God's existence while simultaneously tearing down centuries of accepted wisdom. He single-handedly ushered in an era of rationalism, which, while useful for mathematics, proved somewhat less comforting for those seeking warm, fuzzy spiritual certainty. He also developed Cartesian coordinates, making it much easier to graph one's existential dread.

Born Catholic, Descartes remained so, at least outwardly, throughout his life. There is no historical record whatsoever suggesting any connection to Jewish identity, practice, or ancestry. His philosophical inquiries were firmly rooted in Western Christian tradition, albeit a tradition he was keen to rigorously scrutinize.

His lasting impact, however, is undeniable. From analytical geometry to foundational epistemology, Descartes laid intellectual groundwork that generations of thinkers have either built upon or vehemently argued against. For such monumental contributions to human thought, even without a drop of Abrahamic blood or an iota of synagogue attendance, one must give him K for Kvell-worthiness.
