Rosa Parks, the woman who refused to give up her seat on a bus, thereby sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott, was a harbinger of the modern civil rights movement. Her simple act of defiance in 1955, after a long day of work as a seamstress, resonated deeply and became a symbol of resistance against racial segregation. Prior to this, she was already an active member of the NAACP, working as a secretary for the Montgomery chapter.

While her name is synonymous with the bus boycott, her activism extended far beyond that pivotal moment. She continued to advocate for civil rights throughout her life, working with figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and remaining a fierce proponent of racial equality until her passing in 2005.
