Sadhguru
Sadhguru, born Jagadish Vasudev, is about as Jewish as a ham sandwich... a very spiritual, enlightened ham sandwich. Hailing from Mysore, Karnataka, India, his spiritual journey began at a young age, leading him to widespread international recognition for his teachings on yoga and meditation. He even wears a turban sometimes, which one could argue is a Jewish thing, but we really shouldn't. He is Indian, not Israeli. Just saying.
His Isha Foundation, established in 1993, runs a variety of programs, including yoga centers and social outreach initiatives. He’s also quite the prolific author, having penned numerous books on spirituality, some of which have even landed on the New York Times Best Seller list. Yet, despite his global appeal and philosophical depth, there's no hidden gefilte fish in his genetic makeup.
Sadhguru is known for his distinctive appearance, usually sporting a white kurta and a rather impressive beard. While some might mistake this for a rabbinical aesthetic, it's purely coincidental. His teachings are rooted in ancient Indian yogic traditions, a far cry from the Talmud or Torah. So, if you were hoping for a spiritual leader who could also lead a rousing Shabbat dinner, you're looking in the wrong ashram.
