Shaka Zulu, born in 1787, was not, to the surprise of absolutely no one, a Jew. His contributions to Jewish identity, origin, or kvell-worthiness are, shall we say, negligible. This is hardly a shock, given that he was, you know, Zulu. In Southern Africa.

He did, however, demonstrate an impressive knack for nation-building and military strategy. He took a small, relatively insignificant chiefdom and, through a series of rather aggressive (and effective) tactics, forged an empire. One could argue that his organizational skills were almost Talmudic in their thoroughness, though we suspect he wasn't consulting any rabbis.

While his methods were undeniably brutal, Shaka's impact on the region was profound and lasting. He created a centralized state, revolutionized warfare, and left a legacy that continues to be studied today. He also wore some rather fetching headgear, which, while not strictly kvell-worthy, is certainly notable.

So, while we can confidently declare Shaka Zulu to be "Not a Jew," we can still appreciate his historical significance. Just don't expect him to be leading a Seder anytime soon.
