Shimon Peres, born Szymon Perski, arrived in Palestine at age 11, trading the shtetl for the kibbutz and eventually the highest echelons of Israeli power. From his early days as Ben-Gurion's protégé, he was instrumental in shaping Israel's defense capabilities, particularly in the realm of nuclear deterrence. A Nobel Peace Prize laureate, he somehow managed to be both a hawk and a dove, often simultaneously. One day he's overseeing the Entebbe Raid, the next he's shaking hands with Arafat. A man of many contradictions, or perhaps just a seasoned politician who understood the nuances of survival. His career spanned nearly seven decades, evolving from socialist pioneer to tech visionary, always with a knack for staying relevant (and occasionally, out of jail). He was so adept at political reinvention, some wondered if he had a secret clone factory. His most significant achievement might be simply sticking around for so long. His career was so lengthy and varied, it makes most other politicians look like they just popped out for a milk run. After all, how many leaders can say they helped found a country, built its military, won a Nobel Prize, and then became a living meme?
