Born in Eastern Cape, South Africa, Steve Biko quickly rose to prominence as a leader in the anti-apartheid struggle. As the founder of the Black Consciousness Movement, he advocated for the empowerment and psychological liberation of black South Africans, inspiring a generation to resist the oppressive regime.

Despite advocating for non-violent resistance, Biko's powerful message and influence made him a significant threat to the apartheid government. He was banned, arrested multiple times, and ultimately died from injuries sustained while in police custody in 1977, sparking international outrage.

While his life was tragically cut short at just 30 years old, Biko's legacy as a martyr for freedom and equality continues to resonate globally. His courage and unwavering commitment to justice undoubtedly make him one of the most kvelled-over figures in human rights history.
