Sunny Hostin
A few years ago, a reader asked us to come up with a list of female names that Jews would never use, for a project they were working on. (Christian porn? That was our guess.) Our response: Prudence, Charity, Faith... if there is a Jewish woman named after that trinity, please let us know. (We're not expecting any responses. Come to think of it, another for the list: Trinity.)
Now, if one wanted to expand their (Christian porn?) project south of the border, here is a very goyishe Hispanic name: Asuncion. Yes, the capital of Paraguay also doubles as a woman's name. You don't have to be a linguist to determine its meaning: "ascension". No, not too many Jewish women would be named that...
So we can't exactly claim Sunny Hostin, whose real name is Asuncion, to be Jewish. The co-host of "The View" is Black on her father's side, Hispanic on her mother's, but — aha! — her maternal grandfather was a Jew. Sunny herself is Catholic, so we're willing to bet this Asuncion is not exactly close to her Jewish roots.
You know another name never used by Jews?
Sunny.
Verdict: **Barely a Jew**.
