Tarana Burke

Tarana Burke is the founder of the "Me Too" movement, which she started in 2006 to help survivors of sexual violence, particularly young women of color. The movement gained widespread attention in 2017 after the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but Burke had been doing the work for over a decade prior.

While her work is undeniably impactful, and has brought about a significant cultural shift, there's no indication of any personal connection to Judaism. She's a lifelong advocate for racial justice and gender equality, but her activism doesn't intersect with Jewish identity or heritage.

So, while we kvell at her courageous and vital work in bringing awareness and support to survivors, Ms. Burke won't be joining our tribe anytime soon. She's too busy changing the world for the better, one survivor at a time.
