Born Chou Tzu-yu in Taiwan, Tzuyu is one of the most recognizable faces in the K-pop industry. Her meteoric rise to fame as a member of the girl group Twice cemented her status as a global idol, despite, or perhaps because of, a rather awkward political incident early in her career.

While her origin story is firmly rooted in East Asia, with no known connection to the Abrahamic faiths, she did manage to unite a nation—Taiwan, that is—when she was forced to apologize for waving the Taiwanese flag. This act, perceived as an endorsement of Taiwanese independence by mainland China, inadvertently boosted her and Twice's profile across the globe.

Her "Jew or Not Jew" status, therefore, is about as clear as the lyrics of a K-pop song to someone who doesn't speak Korean. She's Taiwanese, she sings, she dances, and she once caused an international kerfuffle with a flag. If there's a hidden menorah in that equation, we've certainly missed it.
