Born in Trinidad to a family of Indian descent, V. S. Naipaul moved to England to pursue his literary career, eventually becoming one of the most celebrated and controversial voices in post-colonial literature. His profound insights into displacement and identity earned him a knighthood and the Nobel Prize, though his opinions often ruffled more than a few feathers.

Naipaul was certainly not Jewish, tracing his lineage back to Brahmins from India. There's no record of him ever expressing any affinity for gefilte fish or arguing about the merits of a good deli, which pretty much solidifies his "Not a Jew" status.

While he might not have joined our tribe, his literary achievements are undeniable. Five books shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and winning it with "In a Free State," along with the Nobel in Literature, makes him supremely kvell-worthy for his craft, if not for his heritage. We can still appreciate genius, even when it comes from a distinctly non-Jewish source.
