In the 17th century, Galileo Galilei had a radical idea: it rotates! The Earth, that is. The establishment did not exactly agree. Galileo was pronounced a heretic and spent the rest of his life under house arrest. Galileo, of course, was proven right.

In the 20th century, Vera Rubin had a radical idea: it rotates! The galaxy, that is. The establishment did not exactly agree. Thankfully, heresy was longer an option. Rubin, of course, was proven right.

Not only was she right, but her discovery led to evidence for dark matter. Can you imagine that in the 17th century? "Dark matter"? Rubin would have been burned at the stake immediately... Woman, scientist, and Jew: that's three strikes right there!

Fortunately, the establishment has progressed from the 17th century...
