Viggo Mortensen, known for roles ranging from Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings" to the gruff, conflicted father in "The Road," brings a certain gravitas to every part. He's also a prolific artist in other mediums, suggesting a soul brimming with creative angst. But beneath the layers of performance and artistic endeavor, is there even a hint of matzo ball soup?

Despite a diverse lineage that includes Danish, American, and Norwegian roots, a thorough investigation reveals absolutely zero connection to the Tribe. No grandmothers who fled the pogroms, no secret Bar Mitzvah, not even a casual appreciation for a good bagel. It seems his intensity comes from other, less ethnically specific, wellsprings.

While his dedication to his craft is admirable and his portrayal of complex characters often compelling, there's simply nothing here to elicit a collective "oy vey" of pride from the Jewish community. He's a talented individual, undoubtedly, but in the specific taxonomy of "Jew or Not Jew," he stands firmly on the "Not" side.
