Vincent van Gogh, a man whose artistic output was as prolific as his earlobe was... well, problematic. He painted sunflowers, starry nights, and self-portraits that screamed, 'I need a hug (and maybe some antipsychotics).' His life was a whirlwind of unappreciated genius, culminating in a rather dramatic exit from this mortal coil, leaving behind a legacy of vibrant canvases and a medical mystery.

Born in Groot Zundert, North Brabant, Netherlands, to a Protestant minister, Vincent's connection to Judaism was, shall we say, tangential at best. His religious fervor was more of the fire-and-brimstone variety, not so much the 'lighting Shabbat candles' persuasion. So, for those hoping for a hidden menorah in his attic, you're out of luck.

Despite the lack of Abrahamic lineage, Van Gogh's work has brought a certain universal 'kvell-worthiness' to millions. Who hasn't looked at 'The Starry Night' and felt a pang of artistic awe? His ability to capture emotion and light with such intensity transcends any single culture or creed. He proved that you don't need a synagogue membership to create something truly divine.

So, while he might not have been a Jew by birth or practice, his artistic impact is undeniably massive. We can all agree he wasn't exactly bringing home the matzo ball soup, but he certainly brought home the masterpieces.
