Virginia Apgar, born in 1909, was a groundbreaking physician, primarily known for developing the Apgar score in 1952. This simple, elegant method for assessing a newborn's health shortly after birth quickly became a global standard, saving countless lives and ensuring tiny humans get the attention they need right from the jump. Because nothing says "Welcome to the world, tiny human!" like a quick scoring system.

While her achievements in medicine were monumental, particularly for women in a male-dominated field, her personal life didn't include any known connections to Judaism. She was an Episcopalian, and her family lineage doesn't ping any Jewish radar. Thus, the "Jew or Not Jew" database can confidently state she was, in fact, not a Jew.

However, we can all agree that inventing something that literally determines if a baby is thriving is pretty kvell-worthy, even if you're not Jewish. It's hard to argue with a legacy that makes sure more babies get to grow up and potentially invent their own life-saving scores. So, while she doesn't score on the I or O, her K-score is off the charts.
