Walt Weiss
If you google "is Walt Weiss Jewish", the response is clear as day.
Weiss grew up with a strong Jewish education and heritage, and in Las Vegas he became an active member of Sephardic synagogue Or-Bamidbar.
Only when you click on the link, you find out that the Weiss discussed is some random boxer and casino professional, not the former World Series champion with the A's and Marlins and one-time manager of the Rockies. So you go down Google's list:
Weiss' parents were immigrants from Germany, spoke German at home, and attended the United Church of Christ.
So you click on that, and find out that this is not about Walt Weiss at all, but Alta Weiss, a pioneering FEMALE baseball player. At least they got the sport right. Moving on:
Walt Weiss — NOT JEWISH. THE EDITOR OF THIS SITE WILL GO CRAZY IF THIS INQUIRY COMES UP AGAIN. He is not Jewish! We have 3 sources incl. — no kidding — a federal wiretap.
That's from a 25-year-old newsgroup post, which, alas, did not provide the wiretap. OK, here we go:
"This guy wants me to do something for his son's Bar Mitzvah. [...] I get a ton of these. They're convinced I'm Jewish."
That's direct from the Weiss in question, discussing fan mail. ("He was not. He was Catholic, although he had a somewhat Jewish last name", the writer adds.)
"There's a little church, the Chapel by the Sea, and we go there the night before Christmas every year."
Clearly not Jewish! You better put this profile at the top of your results, Google.
