Yoritomo Minamoto
Born into the powerful Minamoto clan, Yoritomo’s early life was marked by the Heiji Rebellion, which saw his family defeated and him exiled. Far from being a vacation, this period was crucial, allowing him to forge alliances and plot a rather significant comeback.
After years of political maneuvering and warfare, Yoritomo crushed his rivals, including his own half-brother Yoshitsune (awkward family dinners, anyone?). He then established the Kamakura Shogunate in 1192, effectively shifting power from the emperor to the samurai class. A real go-getter, this one.
While he never claimed Jewish ancestry or, frankly, even knew what that was, his achievements in establishing a feudal military government were undeniably impactful. He built a system that endured for centuries, demonstrating a strategic prowess that would make any grandparent kvell, regardless of their religious persuasion.
