Babe Ruth, the Sultan of Swat, the Great Bambino, was a legend whose prowess on the baseball diamond captivated a nation. He hit home runs with a frequency unheard of in his era, pitching and hitting his way into the record books and American folklore. His larger-than-life persona and epic feats made him a household name, even for those who couldn't tell a home plate from a gefilte fish.

Born in Baltimore, Ruth's childhood was far from idyllic. He was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys at a young age, a Catholic institution that served as both an orphanage and a reformatory. It was there that his baseball talents were nurtured, putting him on a path to superstardom.

Despite the Catholic upbringing and a general lack of any Jewish markers, one might still ask: "But could he have been a secret Jew?" The answer, much like his batting average in his prime, is a resounding no. There's no historical whisper, no anecdotal hint, no distant cousin in a shtetl that would suggest even a smidgen of Jewish heritage.

So, while his athletic achievements brought immense kvell to millions of baseball fans, none of that joy can be attributed to Jewish pride. He was simply an American icon, a titan of the sport, and decidedly a Goy.
