Born William Samuel McTier in Thomson, Georgia, Blind Willie McTell was indeed blind from infancy, but that didn't stop him from becoming a master of the 12-string guitar. His style, a blend of ragtime, blues, and gospel, was unique, and his voice, often described as a tenor, cut through the clamor of juke joints and recording studios alike.
