Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson, a name synonymous with breaking barriers, wasn't Jewish. Not even a little. His story is one of perseverance, talent, and confronting systemic racism, but it doesn't involve him donning a yarmulke or debating the finer points of Talmudic law.

Born in Georgia and raised in California, Robinson’s impact on American society extends far beyond the baseball diamond. He was a vocal advocate for civil rights, consistently challenging segregation and discrimination both on and off the field. A true mensch, even without the Jewish genetic code.

So, while we can kvell about his courage, his skill, and his unwavering commitment to justice, we can't claim him as one of our own. He remains, steadfastly, a non-Jew. But a really, really good one.
