James Honeyman-Scott

James Honeyman-Scott, or "Jimmy Zero" as he was sometimes known (perhaps due to his I, O, and K scores in certain demographics), was the lead guitarist and a founding member of the iconic new wave band, The Pretenders. His distinctive guitar style and melodic contributions were integral to the band's early success, helping craft hits like "Brass in Pocket" and "Message of Love."

Born in Hereford, England, Honeyman-Scott displayed a precocious talent for music, particularly the guitar. He quickly became a fixture in the local music scene before teaming up with Chrissie Hynde to form The Pretenders. His playing was often lauded for its innovative blend of punk energy with pop sensibility, making him a sought-after collaborator.

Tragically, Honeyman-Scott's life was cut short at the age of 25 due to heart failure brought on by drug use, just two days after the death of Pretenders bassist Pete Farndon. His untimely demise robbed the music world of a genuinely talented and influential guitarist, leaving fans and fellow musicians to wonder what more he might have achieved. While his contributions were brief, they were undoubtedly impactful, ensuring his place in rock history.
