Larisa Latynina, born in Kherson, Ukrainian SSR, didn't just compete in gymnastics; she practically owned the sport. Her record of 18 Olympic medals, including nine golds, stood for decades, proving that when it came to gravity, she was merely making suggestions. Such dominance would make any proud grandparent burst with nachas, regardless of their heritage.

Before Michael Phelps decided to turn swimming into a personal medal collection, Latynina was the undisputed queen of Olympic hardware. She competed in three Olympic Games, earning at least two individual gold medals in each. This kind of consistency is almost unheard of, showcasing not just immense talent but a formidable will to win.

While her incredible athletic achievements brought immense pride to the Soviet Union and gymnastics fans worldwide, Latynina herself harbors no known Jewish identity or origin. So, while she certainly makes for an excellent kvell, she won't be joining the synagogue social committee anytime soon.
