Miriam Neureuther
Miriam Neureuther, born Miriam Gössner, stormed onto the winter sports scene with an undeniable talent for both biathlon and cross-country skiing. Her speed on the skis was often legendary, making her a formidable force in relays and team events, securing multiple World Championship medals in her career. Individually, however, the top step of the Olympic podium proved elusive, a tantalizing "almost" for a truly gifted athlete.
Despite her German roots and professional success, there's nary a whisper of Semitic connection in her family tree, nor any indication she's secretly observing Shabbat. Her family is firmly rooted in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a Bavarian town more famous for lederhosen than latkes, ensuring her "O" score remains impressively, perhaps disappointingly, low.
Her biggest kvell-worthy moment might just be her marriage to fellow German ski star Felix Neureuther, creating a bona fide winter sports power couple. Together, they're raising a family, presumably instilling in their children the finer points of competitive snow-sliding, rather than, say, the intricacies of Talmudic law. So, while she brings plenty of nachas to Germany, it's not exactly our nachas.
