Born in Germany, Tusnelda Schmidt made a name for herself not on the Olympic podium, but in the smoky, boisterous halls of vaudeville. Her act was less about precision diving and more about sheer, unadulterated spectacle. She was, after all, shot from a cannon and regularly plunged into pools of fire, which certainly set her apart from your average synchronized swimmer.

Her career flourished in the early 20th century, a time when audiences craved novelty and danger, and Tusnelda delivered both in spades. One can only imagine the insurance premiums for such an act, or perhaps, the complete lack thereof. Safety regulations were, shall we say, a bit more "flexible" in those days.

While her name might not be etched in the annals of athletic greatness, Tusnelda Schmidt carved out a niche as a genuine, albeit highly flammable, entertainer. She proved that sometimes, to make a splash, you just need a cannon, some fire, and a healthy disregard for personal well-being. Not a Jew, but certainly a woman who knew how to make an entrance.
