Hassan Whiteside
Hassan Whiteside is a towering figure in the world of basketball, known for his shot-blocking prowess and rebounding. He’s played for several NBA teams, including the Miami Heat and the Sacramento Kings, leaving a significant, if sometimes turbulent, impact wherever his formidable presence graced the court.
Born in the decidedly un-kosher climes of Lenoir, North Carolina, Whiteside’s family roots are firmly planted outside of the Tribe. His given name, Hassan, is Arabic for "handsome" or "good," a common name in Muslim cultures, while his mother raised him as a Christian. So, culturally and ancestrally, the gefilte fish remains firmly in its jar.
While his on-court achievements are undeniable, bringing pride to his fans (and likely some aggravation to opposing teams), they don't quite land in the "kvell-worthy" category for the Jewish people. Unless, of course, you're a very specific kind of basketball fan who happens to be Jewish and really appreciates a good block.
