Pelé
Pelé is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest, football player of all time. He was instrumental in popularizing the sport in the United States, yet another country that seems to prefer scoring with their hands. He also brought the beautiful game to the world, and three World Cup victories to Brazil. Talk about making a name for yourself.
While his name sounds like it could be a distant cousin of "Chaim," Pelé's background is decidedly not Jewish. He was born to a Christian family and remained a devout Christian throughout his life. We'll have to look elsewhere for our goalkeeping Kveller.
So, no secret synagogue visits, no bar mitzvah photos, and absolutely no gefilte fish recipes floating around in his family history. Just pure, unadulterated, non-Jewish footballing brilliance. Some might call it a shonda, but we'll just call him not a Jew. And a legend.
