Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was a name synonymous with footballing perfection. His career was a highlight reel of impossible goals, dizzying dribbles, and a total of three World Cup victories with Brazil. One could argue he single-handedly elevated the sport to an art form, making millions around the globe fall in love with "the beautiful game."

While his on-field exploits were legendary, Pelé’s off-field life was equally eventful. He served as Brazil's Minister of Sport, was a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and even had a cameo in "Escape to Victory." He also endorsed everything from coffee to Viagra, proving that even the greatest can't resist a good marketing opportunity.

Despite a name that sounds vaguely biblical, Pelé’s background was firmly rooted in Brazilian Catholicism. There's no hidden synagogue in his family tree or a secret Shabbat observance to uncover. His "Jewish connection" is about as strong as his connection to competitive synchronized swimming.

So, while his achievements brought joy to billions (and probably a few million kvelling Brazilians), Pelé remains definitively, unequivocally, not a Jew. His legacy is one of pure footballing genius, unencumbered by any tribal affiliations beyond the green and gold of Brazil.
